Judges 15

Judges 15

"But her father would not suffer him to go in. And her father said, I verily thought that thou hadst utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her younger sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her. Judges 15:1-2

When Samson went to his visit his wife, he found that her father had already given her to another guy. Her father seemed apologetic, and offered her younger sister instead, but Samson refused her.

So, he tied 300 foxes together in pairs, put a firebrand between their tails, and set them loose in the Philistines' crops. The Philistines' corn, their vineyards, and their olives were all burn up and destroyed.

Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and her and her father with fire. And Samson said unto them, Though ye have done this, yet will I be avenged of you, and after that I will cease. And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and dwelt in the top of the rock Etam."
Judges 15:6-8

So Samson slew the Philistines once again because they had hurt the ones he loved most at the time, his wife and her father. He loved them more than he loved God. When he once again killed these Philistines,he didn't do it because he was obeying the Lord's instruction, he did it simply because they had hurt him, and he wanted his revenge.

Did the Lord still use this instance to accomplish His will? Yes. But if hehad simply chosen a wife from his own people, he wouldn't have had to live with all of this turmoil. But he had forsaken the narrow path, and had chosen to walk down the wide road. God was using Him mightily, but if he obeyed the Lord in all areas, he would certainly have been a greater example for us to live by. However, no one is perfect, and it is certainly true that God uses the weak persons of this world to accomplish
His will.

Am I serving the Lord in all things, or will God have to chastise me to get my attention?
