Compassion 8/3/09

He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.

Isaiah 40:11 (NKJV)

Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.

Isaiah 53:4 (NKJV)

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

Matt 9:36 (NKJV)

And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

Matt 14:14 (NKJV)

He was moved with compassion for them and healed their sick. The word moved has the idea of being enthused, stimulated, motivated, or encouraged. When Jesus saw the people, both the spiritually and the physically diseased, he had compassion for them. He was stimulated and motivated to do something for them. He saw them as sheep having no shepherd. He saw a need in people's lives, and he swiftly rushed to fill that need.

Do I have compassion for the lost and for the sick?

Will someone spend eternity in a place of utter torment, separated from loved ones and friends, and most importantly, God, because of me?

That almost makes me want to go to hell myself, instead of taking others there with me. But you don't have to have guilt on your conscience for someone's death.

If you see a clerk at a store, or someone in a park or gym or wherever you go; give them a tract, invite them to your church.

Don't wait for God to give you an opportunity to serve and meet needs, go out and find them.
