speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
Eph 5:19 (NKJV)
strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;
Col 1:11 (NKJV)
This first verse says that we are to sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord. And although this doesn't mean that we need to be constantly singing, it does mean that we need to have a joyful spirit within us at all times. And singing is good if you are bummed out over something as well, it will, if it's the right music, help you to remember the Lord and what he has done for you, and what a great God he is . This joy especially shows itself after a trial or several trials. You will realize that God puts trials into your life for a purpose, so that you can give honor and glory to Him. And so that you will rejoice in Him.
So rejoice in the Lord, with what he has done for you and accomplished in your life.
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
Phil 4:4 (NKJV)
