Jealousy 7/13/09

Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, But who is able to stand before jealousy?
Prov 27:4 (NKJV)

For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.
Song 8:6 (NKJV)

This verse in Proverbs is saying that wrath and anger are one thing, and deadly in their own way, but no one can survive jealousy and its deadly effects. We have all been there. We see some responsibility that someone's been given, and we think we have to have it as well. Then, that can turn into
covetousness. Pride as well, except the pride was already there. We wouldn't have been jealous, if it weren't for pride.

'Jealousy is as cruel as the grave.' Jealousy will go so far as to take all who are involved with it into the grave, into death. Most of us wouldn't deliberately try to take someone to the grave; but if we're controlled by jealousy and pride, anything bad could happen? We could lose our best or best friends to it. But more importantly, will we lose our Best Friend? Will we lose our fellowship with Him?

Not if we ask Him to keep us from pride and jealousy. He can keep us from it, if we really want Him to.
