Judges 5
The Lord did indeed deliver Israel that day, and would do so frequently even though His people didn't deserve it. Barak and Deborah decided that they would praise and thank the Lord
for what He had done for them.
"Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying, Praise ye the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves."
Joshua 5:1-2
This song of praise covers the battle, and details how the captain died.
"Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent. He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish.
She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples.
At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead."
Judges 5:24-27
It was good that God could use someone who may not have been very important in man's eyes; someone that others thought may have had no significance.
But, Barak could have gotten a blessing out of being used by the Lord. Instead, he decided to let his fear take hold of him, and consequently, he could not
be used by the Lord at that time. It is always very important that we do what the Lord commands us to do. Quickly, without question, and without fear.
Then and only then can we be used by the Lord. He doesn't use those who think they are something special; who think they have it all down. He uses
those who realize that they need help, and who believe that they are not worthy of serving the Lord. Do we think that we have it all down? That we can
do something, or anything without the Lord's assistance? Will we be like a Barak or a Deborah? Will we trust and walk with Him? or will we who have it all down
walk by ourselves?
