The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV)
In order that we might do these things in the verse above, we must make sure that we have nothing between us and God. That there is 'nothing between our soul and the Savior.' So that we can preach good tidings to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, and proclaim liberty to the captives of sin.
Today all of us are probably going to go somewhere and watch the fireworks. We
might even shoot off some ourselves. But we need to make sure that we don't get caught up in all the excitement of the day, and forget where our freedom came from.
And since our freedom came from God, we need to be sure that we thank Him for it.
We also need to be sure that we are thankful for the servicemen and women who have given their lives, and who have given their time for us and our country. If you happen to see a serviceperson today, go up to them, thank them for their efforts to keep us free. Because without them and without God, we wouldn't be.
Thank you God, for giving us freedom. Help us to be deserving of it. Be with the army, navy, air force, marines, and coast guard as they do their best to keep us free. Help us to be thankful for all things. Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me, and know my ways; and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. In Your name, Amen.
